ABOUT US
Colin & Ann Hunter moved from Wales to Canada in 2004 with their 3 children and bought a 1300 acre farm in the RM of Riverdale which is located between Rivers and Rapid City, Mb.
We operate a commercial 200 head cow/calf operation and run about 50 ewes. Our cows calve towards the end of March and depending on the weather we either bring them in and calve them in our purpose built barn or calve them out on pasture.Our ewes lamb indoors in February.
Our livestock is fed farm grown forage - hay and corn silage and is fattened using our own grain supplemented with salt blocks, vitamins and minerals.
All our animals are vaccinated and dewormed, and antibiotics are only given to sick animals. We don't use any form of hormone growth supplements.
We practice low stress handling of our livestock which includes moving cattle with horses and when it comes to processing we haul our own animals to a small local processing facility to help reduce stress.
AIMS
The Aim Of The Farmer's Field is to provide the public an opportunity to purchase beef and lamb direct from the farm with the knowledge that the animal was born and raised on the farm and processed locally.
Currently we source our pork from another local farmer who operates a non intensive system with similar practices to our own.

Directions : from Brandon head north on hwy 10 . Turn west on hwy 25, go 8 miles . Turn north on Rd117, go 3 miles on gravel - we're on the west side of the road - look for the small red building on the yard!
